Offensive language in music, some are starting to call it a threat to our society that should be banned. But is it really as bad as they say? The musicians have a right to say what they want and express themselves. Why should people be able to destroy one of the most popular genres in the music industry when there are worse influences that they could be dealing with?

Freedom of speech is a right that everyone should have. A right to express your opinion and tell it like it is. If we allow this music to be banned we will be making us even more ignorant as a society than we already are. This music is made from the thoughts, beliefs and opinions of the musicians and we can’t let it be destroyed.

‘Offensive’ music like rap makes up a large portion of the music industry. It has become one of the most popular genres in the world, listened to by millions of people. The reason that this music is so popular isn’t the language it uses. This is music that people can relate to. This music expresses popular opinions and real situations. Without this music the industry could lose billions of dollars and millions of fans.

Some say that offensive is to blame for increases in crime and is a ‘bad influence.’ Compared to other mediums like TV, movies and video games to name a few music is only a minor influence  and can’t be held responsible for all the violence, abuse and conflict it is being accused of causing. If this music is banned do you think any of this will change?

Are we going to ban one of the most popular genres of music in the industry? Are we going to deny the artists right to free speech? When music is just one of the influences in our lives, why go to such extremes to destroy it?
